Jason was originally a member of Savannah Rotary East in the early 2000’s when he was a Commercial Lender/AVP with The Coastal Bank.  He was brought into the club by Jean Iaderosa.  He spent several years with the club including Sergeant at Arms under Tony O’Reilly.  In 2008 he grew a beard and opened a bar in God’s Country, otherwise known as Athens, Georgia.  Upon his return to Savannah, Jason rejoined the club on October 17, 2014 sponsored by Dr. Stanley Lester.  At this time, Jason was a carefree bachelor with nothing but free time on his hands and employed at TMX Finance.  Since then, he got married on May 2nd, 2015 to the former Lindsay Timmons of Thomasville, Ga. and on September 21st, 2016, Jason and Lindsay welcomed their first child with the birth of their son, Bridger Cannon Jones.  After much pleading, bribing, and cajoling from Jeff Heeder, Jason started his career at Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor on March 24th, 2017.  He can be reached at 912-351-2348 or jones.j@ml.com.  For those with money to invest, he can also be reached via beeper, Morse Code, or smoke signal.  Jason enjoys spending time with his family, and reminiscing about when he had time to enjoy boating, golf, rugby, tennis, Gridiron, Debtor’s Society, and college football.

The Rotary Club of Savannah East welcomed a talk on one of Savannah famous landmarks, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Lafayette Square. Club member, Peter Palucci volunteers his time giving tours of the fascinating Cathedral, and he is clearly passionate about the Cathedral. He revealed the Cathedral’s history dated back to the when the French Catholic émigrés established Savannah’s first parish, called the Congrégation de Saint Jean-Baptiste in the late 1700’s. Over the centuries there were building moves and a fire which almost destroyed the Cathedral. Eventually the magnificent structure that adorns Savannah today reigned triumphant.

The Foundation will be holding its first annual golf fundraiser, sponsored by Rotary Club South, on October 26, 2017 at Southbridge Golf Club.

Rotary South has agreed to apply 100% of the net proceeds contributed by Rotary directly to SECF.

It would be great if Savannah East could sponsor a team or two (4 players @ $125 each) and/or hole sponsors ($100 each). What a great way to support the club's dedication to education.

Thanks to the ladies from the Historic Savannah Foundation who gave us an overview of the foundation at the meeting.  The mission of the Historic Savannah Foundation is to preserve and protect Savannah's heritage.  HSF started in 1955 in response to the proposed demolition of the Isaiah Davenport House to make room for a parking lot.  Seven ladies banded together and raised $22,500 to save the house.

A fun time was had by all who attended the first RCSE Pub Crawl!

The Pub Crawl was a fun event on Friday July 29th.  We had a small but lively group – Justin Godchaux & Elizabeth McCloat, Beth & Steve Aldrich, Beth Hancock, Cindy Kelly, Sandy Sherrill, Donna Shea and Laura Walker (potential new member).

Cocktails at In Vino Veritas (the hottest bar in town) and dinner at Six Pence!  It was a nice change from the regular meeting.

The 'Back to School Breakfast' hosted for Haven Elementary was a HUGE success!

We had a successful service project at Haven Elementary on Friday July 29th - 33% participation!!  Yeah!!

We provided a Back to School Breakfast and treats for the teachers. Lots of yummy breakfast food and a special delivery of Leopold's Ice Cream.  Principal Young was enthusiastic in her introduction of our club and the support we can give them.  In addition to breakfast, each teacher received a package of 12 pencils and Extra chewing gum all wrapped in a paper cone that was printed with “Haven Elementary will go the extra mile”.  (Thanks to one of Beth Hancock's employees for putting that together!)

Many thanks to Beth Hancock, Barrett Benton, Mel Mrochinski, Marc Friday, Claude Wilson, Ed Donoghue, Joe Buck, Donna Shea, Donna Murley, Gena Taylor, Beth Aldrich, Jason Jones, Ben Brewer, Steve & Montie Acuff, & Paul Tatum for bringing food and/or serving!!

Please continue to collect Box Tops for Haven Elementary!

As part of our ongoing support of Haven Elementary, we will have a Box Tops collection at every meeting.  If you don't have a child or grandchild's school you are currently supporting with your Box Tops, please bring them to our Rotary Club meetings.  For every 10 box tops, the school will receive $1 - and those dollars will add up quickly!

Look for the pink collection container at the next meeting!

See the Box Tops website for a list of participating products if you are not familiar with the program.
