After a few weeks away from The Pirates House, RCSE was back to business on November 17 with fun, fellowship, and a presentation by fellow Rotarian Gary Sanchez who is the Regional Director of External Affairs of AT&T Georgia.

Gary began his presentation by briefly touching on the fact that communication is constantly evolving and more people are communicating through technology than ever before.  The iPhone was introduced in 2007 and it changed the world.  The "app" industry alone has 1.6 million jobs in the United States.  AT&T is trying to meet future demand with a transformed network.  Currently, cell phone companies are in the process of starting to use small cells.  These small cells will lay the foundation for the 5G network which is expected to make its debut late 2019/early 2020.  5G will offer speeds of 50-100x greater than the current network and is considered the next generation of super fast, flexible wireless connectivity.

AT&T is continuing to innovate and averages about 5 new patents a day.  Over the past few years, they have invested 5 billion into their network in Georgia and employ 19,000 employees in our state.  They are also committed to helping area schools and non-profits.  AT&T U-verse TV is not expected to be in the Savannah marketplace due to the acquirement of DIRECTV in 2015.
