This past Friday RCSE was privileged to have District Governor Dr. Hamsa Thota visit our club.  Before Dr. Thota spoke, President Ben Brewer welcomed everyone back from the Thanksgiving holiday.  It was especially nice to see some faces who have been unable to attend for the past few months.  Also, a big congratulations to Ed Hissam on the new addition to his family - a baby girl!  Once all Rotary items were discussed, it was time for Dr. Thota to make his presentation.

Dr. Thota is asking all Rotarians in District 6920 to help with some items during his term.  Those items are sponsor a new member, work on a service project, promote Rotary, and contribute to The Rotary Foundation.  Dr. Thota believes Rotary provides a great opportunity for people to share their knowledge and expertise which can help youth.  Rotarians know how to identify problems, develop partnerships and implement solutions.  He believes that what we give of ourselves will be returned to us even greater.

Dr. Thota has two major initiatives for his term.  The first is the Entrepreneurship Project.  He is encouraging clubs to partner with area schools in creating and supporting student programs, which foster the entrepreneur spirit.  The goal is to provide problem-solving environments where students will develop the mind-set and skills needed in becoming entrepreneurs.  There will be a showcase in Jekyll Island in the Spring where students can present their ideas and win scholarships.  The second initiative is Saving Lives with Medicines.  This is a partnership service project between D6920 Rotary Clubs and MAP International/Phalarope/Pharmacy Schools.  The medicine provided would help individuals who have fallen between the medical cracks.  Rotary Clubs could donate money and/or help package medicines for recipients.  He ended his talk by saying Rotarians are apart of something good and we should embrace it.
