It was a wonderful day at RCSE as we were treated to another presentation by a RCSE member!  After President Jason Jones went over Rotary business, Tom Owens spoke to the club about advancements in aviation.

Tom began by saying things have changed a lot in thirty years especially with the emergence of touchscreens.  He talked about the advancements in communication and how that has helped eliminate language barriers when flying overseas.  He then touched on enhanced systems such as vision systems and ground proximity warning systems.  He explained FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) and said if you have a car that starts with a touch of a button, you have one too!  While planes are flying, they pick up weather and transmit the information to receiver sites.  At the beginning of COVID, there was less weather data than normal because fewer planes were flying.  He also was kind enough to give us a tip about when to go to the bathroom before landing (which would be 110 miles away from your final destination).   Finally, he concluded saying that not all of the advancements have made it to the United States.  If you want to learn more about aviation, Tom recommends the website http://www.code7700.com
