It was another great Friday at The Pirates House!  President Ben Brewer started by thanking Laura Lane McKinnon for agreeing to be the host family for Brendan Mungwena who is the GRSP student RCSE is co-sponsoring with Savannah South and Savannah West.  Thank you Laura Lane!  Then, Ben read a thank you note from Claude Wilson's wife, Janet.  She was very appreciative and deeply touched at the donation of books in honor of Claude to Haven Elementary.  After Rotary business items were discussed, the club had the pleasure of learning about SCAD Museum of Art.

Sean McGee, Director of Operation at SCAD Museum of Art, began the presentation with a brief history of the museum.  The museum broke ground in January 2010 and opened to the public and students on October 29, 2011.  Since the opening, the museum has seen continual growth as well as an increase in the caliber of artists who exhibit at the space.  A quote from a SCAD museum brochure states "Melding modern architecture with a historic 1853 railroad depot, the museum honors the past while showcasing world-renowned contemporary artists." The museum space is a great learning environment for all.  The first floor houses the main galleries and a theatre.  The second floor has academic classrooms and storage areas.  The docents in the museum are all SCAD students and the exhibitions rotate every 4-6 months.  The cost for admission is $10 or one can purchase a membership which is $50 for an individual or $70 for a family.  The current membership is at 247.
