After having a few weeks off due to Labor Day and Hurricane Dorian, it was nice to get back into the swing of things at The Pirates House.  President Karl Bohnstedt reminded the membership of the upcoming Service Project on Friday, September 27th and the Field Trip to the Sheriff's Complex on Friday, October 4th.  Please sign up with Kerri if you would like to attend so we have an accurate headcount for lunch.  After all Rotary business items were discussed, Laura Lane McKinnon introduced our speaker for the day, Cuffy Sullivan with League of Women Voters of Coastal Georgia.

The League of Women Voters was formally established in 1920 to help educate women on how to vote.  Since it's beginning, it has been a nonpartisan organization.  Cuffy helped establish a chapter in Savannah in 2016 because she felt there had been a decline in civil discourse surrounding politics.  Cuffy gave some insight into what it means to be nonpartisanship and that every issue is connected through the Bill of Rights.  The foundation of our country is nonpartisan.  Some of the priorities of League of Women Voters is redistricting, voter access, campaign finance, and women's rights.  In Coastal Georgia, they also like to have candidate forums, panels, programs, and activities as well as provide a nonpartisan voter guide on their website.  Their next event is a Savannah Mayoral and At-Large Forum on Thursday, October 3rd from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm at Coastal Georgia Center on Fahm Street.  If you would like to submit any questions for the forum, please visit the league website, lwvcaga.org, or you can send in questions through the mail by 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 26th to:
