It was another great meeting this past Friday at The Pirates House.  We had two members go from Red to Blue Badge - congratulations Elizabeth Brown and Bernadette Bryant for completing your requirements!  Gordon Matthews spoke during the Rotary Minute and mentioned that there are 1.3 million Rotarians throughout the world with 25% residing in the United States.  Once all Rotary business items were discussed, Amy Williams spoke to the club about the Savannah Philharmonic.

The Savannah Philharmonic is a community focused art organization for the low country region.  Music is a universal language and therefore, the Savannah Philharmonic wants to engage as many people as possible.  Research has shown that people don't come to performances because they don't feel included.  Therefore, the 2022-2023 Savannah Philharmonic season is going to have something for everyone!  Their marketing campaign includes various events with the word "Phil" in the title such as Phil the Park, Phil the Square, and Phil the Neighborhood.  Phil the Neighborhood will play in eight different locations over the next three weeks with different types of music.  Each concert will last an hour and will be free to attend.

She also mentioned programming to engage children in music which is called Phil the School with Music.  All 5th grade students will be invited to attend a concert during the school day.  The biggest deterrent for a child playing an instrument is cost.  They have just launched a program that will give free instruments to students who qualify and will fund lessons for the child as long as they are active participants in the program.  To learn more about The Savanah Philharmonic, please visit https://savannahphilharmonic.org
