This past Friday, RCSE hosted Congressman Buddy Carter at our meeting.  Congressman Carter was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to share with the club about what he is focused on in Washington DC and around our district.

Congressman Carter is serving his 4th term in Congress.  He is a life long resident of the first district and for his first 6 years, he was the only pharmacist in Congress.  He began his talk by talking about Afghanistan and the struggle to bring everyone back to America safely before the deadline.  All service members over the past twenty years who served in Afghanistan protected us and kept us safe.  Therefore, their service was not in vain.  Unfortunately, the Taliban has seized thousands of weapons, vehicles and hundreds of airplanes and Blackhawk helicopters during our withdrawal.

He then talked about how Congress is normally on recess during the month of August but they were called back to Washington DC earlier in the week to discuss three bills.  The only bill that passed was the HR4 voting rights act also known as the John Lewis Act.  The other two bills that were discussed were a $1.1 trillion infrastructure bill and and $3.5 trillion human infrastructure bill.

Early this year, Congressman Carter visited the southern border.  He visited a holding facility for children that was overcrowded.  He says illegal drugs, illegal immigrants, and people with COVID are crossing over.  Finally, he mentioned that crime is on the rise as well as inflation.

He ended his presentation saying he has learned that you need to surround yourself with good people.  He truly feels it is an honor and a privilege to serve as the Congressman for the First District of Georgia.
