This past Friday, RCSE learned about TEDxSavannah from speaker Brian Judson!  President Elect Andrew Cosey announced that the RCSE meeting on Friday, May 12th, will be at Mother Mathilda Beasley Park.  Please RSVP with Kerri so the correct amount of food is ordered for our Picnic in the Park!  Once all Rotary items were discussed, Katie Gingrich introduced Brian.

TEDxSavannah has been in place since 2009.  Brian said the "x" means that this event is locally organized with local content.  This year, TEDxSavannah will be on Thursday, May 25th, at the Georgia Southern Armstrong campus beginning at 12:30 PM and running until 5:30 PM.  Tickets are only $50 which is a reduction in price of over $60.  The Board Members of TEDxSavannah wanted to make the tickets more accessible so they decided to not include food at this year's event.  Brian explained that there were 120 applications.  25 were picked to come in and pitch their idea and then 15 made the final cut (with our very own Kim Campbell being one of them!).   The theme for the talk this year is connection and each presentation will be 8-12 minutes.  They are looking for volunteers to help with parking, check in, and to be ushers.

After giving us information for May 25th, Brian then gave a brief history of TED.  TED stands for technology, entertainment, and design.  It began in the late 70's/early 80's in California as a way for people to have an exchange of ideas.  There are 100 local TED chapters in the United States.  If you are interested in volunteering for TEDxSavannah, please email jkw1104@gmail.com and if you would like to purchase tickets, please visit http://tedxsavannah.com
