It was another good Friday to attend a RCSE meeting at The Pirates House.  The club had two visitors from South who came to talk about the upcoming Golfing For Goodness' Sake Golf Tournament and Fundraiser which is hosted by South, West, and East!  For more information on how you can participate in this fundraiser, please contact Kerri.  After all Rotary business items were discussed, Laura Lane McKinnon introduced the speaker for the day - Tim Cone with Ga Tech Savannah.

Tim Cone is the Program Director for CEISMC (Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing) Savannah campus which helps bring Ga Tech resources to both public and private schools K-12 in a four county area in Savannah.  They do STEM outreach, professional development for teachers, develop partnerships, innovate STEM education, evaluate STEM to ensure programs are effective and engage with the main campus.  Ga Tech is in the top 10 in engineering in the world and they want to share their resources through programs such as CEISMC.  During this past fiscal year, the Savannah campus had over 1,000 students local students, seven summer programs, and trained over 100 teachers.

Tim highlighted three programs during his presentation.  The first was GIFT which is a paid internship for teachers during the summer months.  This past summer, 70 teachers throughout the state participated.  They are placed in jobs which allow them the opportunity to have real world application of what they teach.  The second program was K12 InVenture Prize which is an invention based science fair.  The next competition is on January 23 and they are always looking for judges.  The last program Tim talked about is Make It, Move It Summer Program which exposes 7th-10th graders to supply chain and logistics.
