Savannah East News
It was a brief but meaningful Zoom meeting on Friday with the Induction of the Officers for the upcoming year.  Gordon Matthews said it had been a pleasure being RCSE's Zoom moderator and then he turned it over to Sam Eskew, our Assistant Governor, for the Officer Installation.  Your new officers for the upcoming Fiscal Year are: President - Laura Lane McKinnon, Vice-President - Michael Solomon, Secretary - Katie Wohlust, Treasurer - Bruce Montgomery, Sergeant at Arms - Mel Mrochinski, and Past President - Gordon Matthews.  Once the Officer Installation was complete, Sam spoke about the theme for the Rotary year which is "Rotary Opens Opportunities."  He said all plans need to stay fluid at this time due to COVID-19.  President Laura Lane then said she appreciated the gracious welcoming of her into her new role and that she is looking forward to the upcoming year.
It was a great day for a talk from our very own Dr. Joe Buck about the status of the Chatham County school system.  Laura Lane McKinnon filled in this week for President Gordon Matthews and reminded the club that Harriet Meyerhoff has designated RCSE as a place to donate money in honor of Eric.  If you would like to do so, please send a check to RCSE at POBox 60822, Savannah, GA 31420.  Once all Rotary business items were discussed, Laura Lane turned the meeting over to Joe Buck.
It was good so many Rotarians could join us today for our trip to Vietnam!  Gordon reminded everyone that Harriet Meyerhoff has designated RCSE as a place for people to make donations in Eric's honor.  If you would like to make a donation, please make a check out to RCSE and send it to PO Box 60822. Savannah, Ga 31420.  All money collected will be donated to The Rotary Foundation.  After all Rotary business items were discussed, Gordon introduced our speaker for today - Will Sandman.
On Friday, we travel live to Vietnam hearing from Will Sandman, a native of Louisville, KY and an international MBA graduate of Oregon State.  Will and his wife Nichole live in Ho Chi Mihn City and were very recently living in Hong Kong.  Will has also lived and worked in mainland China.  Will has lots of experience with manufacturing in Asia connected to US footwear brands and works for Avery Dennison, a US public company operating in 50 countries with 30,000 employees.  Will is also an avid organizer for Australian rules Rugby teams having lived in Australia earlier.  Will is Gordon Matthews' nephew and is 40 years old.  It will be Saturday night at 11:30 PM when Will reports to us from the other side of the planet.  Please plan on joining in this Friday to hear his presentation!
