Savannah East News
This past Friday saw RCSE meeting in a more cozy room at The Pirates House.  Even though the space was smaller, the club was as lively as ever living up to the name "The Fun Club!"  There were a few guests in attendance including Past District Governor Pam Lightsey as well as the new GRSP student, Mateo, who is from Columbia.  Laura Lane McKinnon asked everyone to mark on their calendar Friday, October 4th for a field trip to the Sheriff's Complex on Chatham Parkway.  Then, Betsy Stewart was awarded her Blue Badge for completing all Red Badge requirements - congratulations Betsy!  Once all Rotary business items were discussed, Laura Lane introduced our speaker for the day - Angela Bliss.
The August 2nd meeting will be held from 8:00 am - 9:00 am at Haven Elementary. The club will be providing breakfast for the teachers and staff as well as donating school supplies and books. The club will resume its regular meetings at The Pirates House on Friday, August 9th.
Another great day at The Pirates House! It was nice to see everyone after taking a week off for the Rotary Night Out at the Savannah Bananas game. President Karl Bohnstedt reminded everyone of the Back to School Breakfast at Haven Elementary which is scheduled for Friday, August 2nd from 8:00am - 9:00am. In addition to providing breakfast for the teachers, RCSE will be donating school supplies and 31 books to their library. Once all business items were discussed, Ben Brewer introduced Hillari Brown who is the Executive Director of Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) of Georgia.
There was royalty in the room with us on Friday - Miss Georgia Victoria Hill from Canton, GA.  After a new charity was drawn for the quarter (Humane Society) and a President Recognition gift given to Past President Cindy Kelley, Miss Georgia spoke to the club for a few minutes.  Her social platform for her year is Flip the Script on Foster Care.  She supports Angel House which houses females ages 12-20 who are in Foster Care.  She has three goals: 1. Raise awareness of foster care in Georgia, 2. Engage business owners to help with the cause by volunteering their services to help, and 3.  Find mentors for those in the foster care system.  Even though her talk was not coordinated with the speaker, it was the perfect introduction to Yvonne Pryor who talked to the club about Inner City Night Shelter.
