This past Friday, RCSE learned about The Learning Center (TLC) which is one of many programs offered by the Senior Citizen, Inc. Roger Smith, Director of TLC, did a wonderful job filling everyone in on the origin of the program and all the current happenings of the center.
About 99% of the programs offered at TLC lie in the humanities. They have four seasons throughout the year with each season lasting from 8-9 weeks. About 72% of the programs are recorded and sent as an email link for those people who can not attend in person. All programs are held at the Senior Citizens, Inc. with the exception of one satellite location on Skidaway Island which is held on Monday's at 5:30 PM. There are three lecture rooms at the main location so they do not lack for space!
A year long membership is $75 but you do not have to be a member to attend the programs. The benefit of a membership is that you receive a discount on the lectures. All the instructors are volunteers which helps keep the cost of membership low. In addition to programs at their location, they do offer educational trips to places in the United States and overseas. Roger concluded his presentation by saying he loves to see the connections that people make when they attend a lecture at The Learning Center.
