Another wonderful meeting on Friday at The Pirates House!  RCSE was lucky to hear from Chatham County Manager, Mr. Michael Kaigler, who gave a detailed overview of things happening in county government, as well as insight into some of the upcoming priorities.

Mr. Kaigler explained the millage rate and how property tax is calculated. He addressed public safety vacancies and the approach that the County is taking to fill several hard-to-fill roles. He shared that Chatham County is in the process of establishing the Chatham County Fire Department, which will begin transitioning fire services and personnel in 2025. Mr. Kaigler also talked about infrastructure needs and priorities, SPLOST projects, several recreation facilities, and transportation projects that are both being planned and those under construction. He also outlined a number of capital projects in the pipeline, including several drainage projects and wrapped up by detailing several social and environmental projects underway.

Mr. Kaigler answered several member questions and gave us all a tremendous amount of information with his usual candor and diplomacy. Thank you, County Manager Kaigler, and County Information Officer, Will Peebles, for joining us and giving us such an interesting presentation!
