Even though the sun didn't cooperate, the presentation at this past week's meeting was one not to be missed!  President Laura Lane thanked everyone who was able to come to the August Social at Wyld and reminded members of the Board Meeting after the regular meeting.  Once all Rotary business items were discussed, Katie Wohlust introduced our speaker, Wes Jackson, who talked about his Solar Death Ray grill.

Due to Wes' background in civil engineering, he was able to build his Solar Death Ray which is a solar powered grill.  The death ray can heat up to 1600 degrees.  In order for the design to work, he needed it to be circular in design.  Specifically, he needed it to be in the shape of a parabola.  He started to build his own curve but soon realized it would be much easier to use a satellite dish.  The name Solar Death Ray is taken from the Greek mathematician Archimedes.  Once Wes built his death ray, he wanted to share it with everyone so he started doing a once a year solar cook out on Tybee.  To watch a video of the Solar Death Ray in action, please follow this link to our Rotary Club of Savannah East Facebook page!  https://m.facebook.com/RotaryClubofSavannahEast/
