Details for the September 23rd Meeting

We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall.  The side door to the room will be unlocked if you would prefer to use that entrance.

Our speaker for the meeting this week is Amy Williams, Executive Director of the Savannah Philharmonic.  She will share about the organization's brand new vision, kicking off this summer, and discuss why an orchestra should be relevant to the community.  What we'll learn:  why an arts organization should be community-driven and why that is relevant to building bridges with diversity

RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
Books for Haven Elementary
During the month of September, Rotary Club of Savannah East will be collecting books for Haven Elementary!  The books will be used as Speaker Gifts and will then be donated in honor of the speaker to the Haven Media Center.  The librarian at Haven has put together an Amazon wish list of books.  When you click to purchase a book, please make sure the shipping address is to YOU.  Once you receive the book, you will then bring it to a meeting and give it to Kerri.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Andrew Cosey, Laura Lane McKinnon, or Kerri Culver.  Thank you for your support of the Haven Media Center!

September 16, 2022 - Weekly Recap
It was another great day at The Pirates House!  Jennifer Graham was moved from a Red Badge to a Blue Badge, Bernadette Bryant gave a Member Minute, and Laura Ross was inducted into the club!  After all Rotary business items were discussed, Laura Lane McKinnon introduced our speaker for the day, Caleb Harkelroad, who spoke about his family business and diamonds.

Harkelroad Diamonds was founded in 1986 by Caleb's father.  Caleb says there are four c's when it comes to diamonds: 1. color 2. cut 3. clarity and 4. carat.  The size of the diamond is the single biggest driver in price and the price of natural diamonds has increased 33% over the past year.  Caleb then talked about lab grown diamonds.  The first lab grown diamond was grown by General Electric in 1954.  These diamonds are 100% eco-friendly and sustainable. They look the same as a natural diamond but generally cost 30%-40% less than a natural diamond.  Please visit Caleb at Harkelroad Diamonds (which is located at the corner of Abercorn and Eisenhower) for any of your jewelry needs!
