It was another great Friday to be meeting at The Pirates House to learn about the Veterans Council and the Veterans Day Parade from Joe Higgins!  We also had Conni Reynolds give a brief talk about SPLOST and the importance of the vote on November 4th.

Joe Higgins began by giving us his military service and background.  He became Chair of the Veterans Council in January 2020 which has been the honor of his life.  One purpose of the Veterans Council is to bring all of the 27 veterans organizations in Chatham County together in order to disseminate information to the many veterans living in our area.  Another is to organize and host the Veterans Day Parade.

Each year, Joe has made it his mission to plan the parade around something special.  This year, he has decided they should honor female veterans who have served in many roles since the founding of our country.  He spoke about the all the ways women have contributed beginning with the Revolutionary War all the way to the Iraq War. There are currently 93,000 female veterans living in Georgia.  He ended his presentation by encouraging everyone to attend the parade and to say "thank you" to the women who have served our country.
