This week, RCSE presented a check to LIFE for $1000 which was made possible through money raised from Happy Dollars and 50/50 Raffle!  President Kim Campbell announced the two awards that RCSE received at the District Conference - Distinguished Service Award and the Award of Excellence!  Once all announcements were made, Cheri Dean introduced our speaker for the day, Alderwoman Carol Bell.

Carol shared the story behind the relaunch of the Summer 500 program — a community-wide initiative she helped found to connect local high school students with meaningful, paid summer work experiences.  She said that if you want to keep a child out of trouble, then you need to give them a job!  This program creates a model for kids as well as a pipeline for our local workforce. Every student who applies receives a job.  The onboarding process is handled by the Board of Education with the goal of matching students with their interests.  The program is 40 hours per week for 4-6 weeks and they are paid $15 per hour.   If you know of a student who would like to apply or a business who would be willing to participate or sponsor a student, please visit https://www.savannahchamber.com/summer-500/
