Many of the residents of Man O War Cay - 300 local families normally, have all been displaced with 85% of the island's structures demolished. All the women and children have been evacuated to Florida, in the Palm Beach/Jupiter area.
Having vacationed on this small Cay for many years, I personally know a lot of the locals and the 2nd homers. One such friend, who owns a vacation home there that has been decimated, is an old Savannah girl Barbara Christoff Dowty. She has offered to be the collection point for any donations(no money), of gift cards or supplies for distribution to the evacuated families from Man O War Cay These families left with only a bag of a few personal items, and need to get their kids ready to go to school in Florida. So gift cards to Target, Walmart, Staples, CVS, Walgreens, Publix etc. would be helpful as well as supplies to the same affect. If you or your Rotary Club wish to make a donation, please send to :
