It was another lovely day for a Rotary Club of Savannah East meeting!  It was great to see so many members and guests attending in order to hear City of Savannah Manager Jay Melder.  Before Jay spoke, Ed Engel gave Larry Barroll his Paul Harris Fellow pin!  After all Rotary business items were finished, Laura Lane introduced our speaker, Jay Melder.

Jay has been the City Manager of Savannah for the past 10 months.  He wants to promote a culture of "yes" to ideas, growth, and services that the citizens of Savannah want.  His top priority is public safety.  They are currently conducting a nationwide search for a new Chief of Police. He wants to put a lot of emphasis on the recruitment and retention of officers.  Some ways he plans on doing this is increasing pay and having a sign on bonus.  Jay also talked about raising the minimum wage for workers to over $15.  He wants to continue to pursue affordable housing and has plans to extend the Tiny House Project!  In conclusion, Jay feels it is important that the city and the county work together.
