On Friday, we had a full room, four new member inductions, and a presentation about the Savannah Music Festival! The club welcomed Holly Whitfield, Ben Gosden, Laura Limp, and Doris Williams into Rotary - we are so excited to have you! Once all Happy dollars were collected and Rotary business items completed, Conni Reynolds introduced our speaker, Dr. Sinisa Ciric, who is the Executive Director of the Savannah Music Festival.
Savannah Music Festival is a two week festival that takes place in the Spring. The dates for this year are March 25th to April 5th. It is the largest and most diverse festival in Georgia! Four distinct musical genres are showcased in multiple locations throughout town. By hosting performances in 10 different venues, they are are able to show attendees the beauty of Savannah while also supporting local businesses near each space. Their mission is to present exceptional live music that entertains, educates, inspires, and unites our community.
Sinisa also talked about the work that the Savannah Music Festival does within the school system. Education is a huge component of their program. One program that they host is Musical Explorers which brings music of three genres to 8,000 K-2 students over the course of four days and is free! Another offering is a year long program called Jazz Academy. Students who enroll in this are given a free instrument and are making a commitment to practice and attend lessons.
