September Service Project - Tharros Place
Sep 30, 2023 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
The September service project will be at Tharros Place on Saturday, September 30th from 9 AM - 1 PM.

Tharros Place provides support and shelter for survivors of human trafficking by providing residential services for girls between the ages of 12-17. Tharros, meaning courage in Greek, is the motivating force for survivors which allows them to envision the future that they desire for themselves. Their trauma-informed approach and plans are customized for each survivor.

Volunteers will be painting and assembling/building IKEA furniture when the painting has been completed. A limited number of volunteers will be able to participate, so please sign up with Kerri early!  Due to the sensitive nature of the organization, the exact location will only be disclosed to members once they've signed up and completed a mandatory Non-Disclosure form.

Protecting Your Business Through a Strong Cybersecurity Posture

Oct 27, 2023 12:00 PM

“Cyber-attacks occur every 39 seconds and as a small business you need to protect yourself, your staff, and your clients,” says Scott Scheidt. “Business owners work endlessly to build the trust of their clients and employees and if there is a security breach of private information, there is nothing more grounding than having to send out a mass email to all of your clients and employees that there was a breach of security on your client’s private information.”

This presentation will cover:

• how to discern if your information is on the dark web
• understanding the cost of a cyber breach
• discover different ways your business or organization may be at risk
• learn the measures to take to better protect your organizations for clients, as well as in-house

Karen Dove Barr

Author of Burnt Pot Island

Feb 09, 2024

Karen Dove Barr’s book, Burnt Pot Island, a Marsh Hammock in its Natural State, answers the question of what life was like on Skidaway Island one hundred years ago when the island was a hotbed of moonshiners and rum-runners. Her clue is a mysterious abandoned house on Burnt Pot Island. Told from the viewpoint of an African-American mother and daughter who struggle to achieve freedom and preserve family, the novel ends with a hard-earned expression of hope for their future. Although the characters are fictional, the events and details are based on extensive historical research.
