We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall. The side door to the room will be unlocked if you would prefer to use that entrance.
Our speaker for the meeting this week is Chief Joseph Shaw who will be giving a presentation titled "The Resources of Your Fire Department." He will share information about fire safety and all of the resources the City of Savannah Fire Department has available to its citizens. They do a whole lot more than just fight fires!
We will also be collecting toys for CASA during the month of December. Please see the information below for details on our December service project and holiday party. RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
RCSE Holiday Party & Toy Drive
The Annual RCSE Holiday Party will be held on Thursday, December 14th, at the home of Andrew Cosey from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Please join your fellow Rotarians for a night of cheer as we celebrate the holidays! For every person who attends, we are asking that you bring one unwrapped gift that will be donated to CASA. Savannah Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) mission is to recruit and train volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse and neglect. The toys collected will be given to these children. Please RSVP for this event in order to ensure there is plenty of food and drink for everyone. Spouses and potential members are welcome to attend! You may RSVP to Kerri at rotarysavannaheast@gmail.com If you are unable to attend the holiday party and would still like to donate a gift, we will be collecting them at the December 1st and December 8th meeting. What a meeting RCSE had this past Friday! We had a member minute from Conni Reynolds, Cale Hall went from Red Badge to Blue Badge, and Toni Marwitz was honored not once but twice for her contributions to the GRSP Foundation! It was a fun and exciting time to be at The Pirates House. After all honors and presentations were given to our members, RCSE was fortunate to hear from Maria de Vivero who is a GRSP student from Columbia.
Maria began her presentation by telling us a little bit about herself and her life in Columbia. She also highlighted various cultural and geographical areas of the country. Maria grew up in a Rotarian household as both of her parents are Rotary members. She attended many Rotary events as a child and said that she learned that Rotary brings all different types of people together. Even though Maria has only been studying at Georgia Southern Armstrong campus for a short time, she has enjoyed every minute of it. Maria is extremely thankful to her sponsoring clubs, her host family, and Toni Marwitz for making her feel so welcomed here in Savannah and for providing her with social, cultural, and academic enrichments.
After Maria spoke, Bill Von Alt informed the club that RCSE has an opportunity to sponsor a GRSP student for next year (2024-2025) with the Richmond Hill and Metro Rotary clubs. The financial commitment for RCSE would be around $4,000. He asked members to help defray the cost by donating to our club's GRSP fund. If you are so inclined to make a donation, you may write the check to RCSE and write in the memo line GRSP. Please reach out to Bill, Andrew or Kerri if you have any questions about the sponsorship.
