We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall.
Our program for this week is Rick Roney and George Woods who will be presenting on Chatham Literary Moonshot. This will be a presentation on the community wide effort to get 95% of our 3rd graders reading on grade level in 5 years. They will discuss where we are, what we are going to do, and ask Rotarians to engage as Literacy Champions.
RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
purple Pinkie project - friday, october 23!
In honor of World Polio Day, RCSE will be participating in the Purple Pinkie Project! The Purple Pinkie Project is a community fundraising and awareness campaign run by Rotary clubs to support global polio eradication. When health workers vaccinate children against polio in countries where the disease is still a threat, they mark the child's pinkie finger with a topical purple dye. We are asking members and guests to donate $5 — the estimated cost to immunize five children — to have their own pinkie painted purple. All funds raised will go to the Rotary Foundation End Polio Now campaign.
This past week, we took our meeting to SEDA where we heard from Asia Harold, who is the Executive Director of Forsyth Farmers' Market! At the beginning of the meeting, President Conni Reynolds asked for a moment of silence to honor Bruce Montgomery. She then announced upcoming Rotary events and Kim Campbell presented Roy Maynard with a Paul Harris Fellow pin! After all Rotary business items were discussed, Melanie introduced Asia.
Forsyth Farmers' Market is much more than a Saturday event. They operate 7 days a week to provide healthy food to members of our community. The market has been operating on Saturday's for 16 years from 9-1 rain or shine! There are a total of 67 vendors, about 50 per week, and the farmers come from a radius of 200 miles from Savannah. The mission of the Forsyth Farmers' Market is that eating healthy foods should be accessible to all. Asia talked about the programs that support their mission such as the Youth Booth at the Saturday market, SNAP/EBT enrollment, 912 Food Farmacy, and the community partners who help distribute food.
