Details for the August 28th Meeting - OFF SITE MEETING
This Friday, we will be meeting at Hospice Savannah (1352 Eisenhower Drive) where we will have lunch before hearing a presentation from Kate Doran titled "Aging in Place - Understanding Alternatives to Traditional Care." We will learn more about a groundbreaking development in local senior care: the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
What a fantastic joint Rotary meeting today, bringing together Rotarians from across Savannah! It was a privilege to hear from District Governor Beverly Trainor and guest speaker Ronald Feldner, Chief of Water Resources for the City of Savannah. The discussion was informative and insightful, but the biggest takeaway was seeing so many Rotarians gathered in one room, sharing ideas, building connections, and being reminded of our joint purpose: Service Above Self. Together, we are stronger and able to create an even greater impact throughout Savannah.
It was another Friday filled with fun and fellowship at RCSE! Scott Schmitt completed all tasks needed to move from Red Badge to Blue Badge - congratulations Scott! President Conni Reynolds reminded everyone to RSVP for the All Club Meeting on Monday, August 24, and announced that our Friday, August 28 meeting would be at Hospice Savannah. Once all Happy dollars were collected, Emily Kurilla introduced our speaker, Eric Swanson, of One Hundred Miles.
Eric serves as the Advocacy Educator for One Hundred Miles which is an organization that protects Georgia's 100 mile coast line through advocacy, education, and community engagements. He shared with us some of their current and upcoming educational programming and talked about the work they do with the legislature in Atlanta. He mentioned the importance of the Okefenokee Swamp being designated a National Heritage Site and how the group is helping the loggerhead sea turtles that nest along our coast. Eric concluded his presentation by saying it is important to build a community as community groups that are tied to the land care about conservation.
