Details for the June 7th Meeting

We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall.  The side door to the room will be unlocked if you would prefer to use that entrance.

Our speaker for the meeting this week is Dr. Ruth Albright who will talk about the role music plays in brain development.   Dr. Albright founded the Savannah Music Academy in 2018. She is a seasoned piano educator with over 20 years of experience in both public schools and private instruction. She offers dynamic group piano lessons for children aged four through high school.  Her lessons, available both online and in-person, are rooted in research that highlights the myriad benefits of music education, including enhanced memory, improved mathematical skills, and boosted self-confidence.

We will also have two new member inductions this week.  Please come and show your support for Roy and Frank as they become members of our club.  RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
May 31, 2024 - Meeting Recap
Another wonderful meeting on Friday at The Pirates House!  RCSE was lucky to hear from Chatham County Manager, Mr. Michael Kaigler, who gave a detailed overview of things happening in county government, as well as insight into some of the upcoming priorities.

Mr. Kaigler explained the millage rate and how property tax is calculated. He addressed public safety vacancies and the approach that the County is taking to fill several hard-to-fill roles. He shared that Chatham County is in the process of establishing the Chatham County Fire Department, which will begin transitioning fire services and personnel in 2025. Mr. Kaigler also talked about infrastructure needs and priorities, SPLOST projects, several recreation facilities, and transportation projects that are both being planned and those under construction. He also outlined a number of capital projects in the pipeline, including several drainage projects and wrapped up by detailing several social and environmental projects underway.

Mr. Kaigler answered several member questions and gave us all a tremendous amount of information with his usual candor and diplomacy. Thank you, County Manager Kaigler, and County Information Officer, Will Peebles, for joining us and giving us such an interesting presentation!
