We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall. The side door to the room will be unlocked if you would prefer to use that entrance.
Our speaker for the meeting this week is City Manager Joseph Melder. He will give us an update of what's going on with the City of Savannah since his last visit with the club in 2022.
RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
RCSE April Service Project
During the month of April, RCSE will be collecting size 4T-5T Pull-Ups for boys and girls that will be donated to Shelter From the Rain. Shelter From the Rain, Inc. (SFTR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, based out of Savannah, Georgia, that provides assistance to single mothers. Established in 2010, SFTR is designed to show how God's love shelters us from the different rain showers that come into our lives. You may bring the Pull-Ups to our April meetings.
Even though it was a bit noisy from construction at The Pirates House, Friday was a great day to be in attendance at RCSE! Laura Lane welcomed our many visitors and reminded everyone that we are collecting size 4T-5T pull ups to donate to Shelter From the Rain. Once all Rotary Business items were discussed, Kim Campbell introduced our speaker, Bert Brantley, who is the President and CEO of the Savannah Chamber of Commerce.
Bert began his talk by saying that the Savannah Chamber of Commerce is 216 years old making it the 2nd oldest in the country! Bert highlighted some upcoming events that the Chamber will be spearheading. He first talked about Small Business Week which will be held April 29 - May 3 at Enmarket Arena. At the beginning of Small Business Week, there will be breaks outs and information regarding a wide variety of topics including social media, group health plans for small businesses, and a job fair. On May 23, there will be a clay shooting tournament where proceeds will go to our local military community. Another thing he talked about is the Regional Chamber Collaboration which our very own Gordon Matthews helped assemble! This is group of seven counties in the area that meet every other month to discuss a local topic as well as plan for the growth in the greater Savannah area.
Bert wanted to make sure we all knew how well our State representatives work together in Atlanta for the betterment of our community. He said we should be proud of our delegates. Bert was patient and willing to answer all of the questions our members had for him. He believes the biggest challenge facing Savannah is literacy which the Chamber is making a top priority.
