Our speaker for this week is Jay Melder who is the City Manager of Savannah and is responsible for annual budget development and advising the City Council on policy issues. He serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the City of Savannah, the state’s second largest municipal corporation (excludes consolidated governments) with a $425M budget and 2,400 employees. The title of Jay's presentation will be "Update on City Strategic Plan and Projects."

GRSP Student Sarah Gómez Jordan arrived in Savannah on Friday, July 31! After getting settled in, Sarah was greeted to a welcome cookout at a fellow Rotarian's home on Wilmington Island. Sarah is from Columbia and will be studying at Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus for the upcoming school year. Please be on the lookout for more information as to how you can get involved with GRSP and support Sarah during her time here in Savannah!
A new school year is just around the corner, and several RCSE members were delighted to spend time at Haven Elementary School for our annual Back-To-School Breakfast! Thanks to the generosity of our members, we were able to deliver much-needed school supplies and uniforms. These are small investments that can make a big difference as they begin a new year of learning and growth.
At Rotary Club of Savannah East, we’re committed to strengthening our community by supporting the teachers and staff who guide and educate our young people, creating opportunities for them to thrive. We are grateful to Haven Elementary for allowing us to play a small part in preparing students for the year ahead. We also want to give a special thanks to The Dive Savannah for catering this special breakfast again this year. Here’s to a school year filled with curiosity, confidence, new friendships, and exciting opportunities. Best wishes to every student, teacher, administrator, and staff member for a fantastic year!
What a fantastic Rotary Club of Savannah East meeting! We kicked things off with a great Member Minute from Scott Schmitt, followed by Kim Campbell, who shared an overview of The Rotary Foundation and explained how the Foundation’s points system can help members work toward Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Congratulations to Conni Reynolds, who was presented with her Paul Harris pin, a well-deserved milestone! After all Rotary business items were complete, then the fun really began!
A huge thank you to John and Bess of Front Porch Improv for leading us through an energetic, laughter-filled series of improv exercises. While we spent plenty of time laughing, the activities also reinforced important lessons about communication, trust, adaptability, and teamwork—the very qualities that make strong Rotary clubs and stronger community leaders. It’s not every day that a room full of Rotarians gets out of their seats, steps outside their comfort zones, and has that much fun together, but that’s exactly what happened! As a thank you to our club for hosting them, John and Bess have extended a complimentary offer to our members: the code ROTARY is good for 2 tickets to one of their 8:30 Friday or Saturday night shows, valid through September.
