We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in the ANNE BONNEY room which is the room adjacent to our normal meeting room. The side door to the room will be unlocked if you would prefer to use that entrance.
Our speaker for the meeting this week is Anne Jones Hurley who will be giving a presentation on the history of early Skidaway!
There will be FOUR new member inductions this week - Tonya Hillis, Alan Fleming, Judge Tammy Stokes, and Bill Von Alt!! Please show your support for these new members by attending this meeting. RCSE looks forward to seeing all members on Friday!
During the month of September, Rotary Club of Savannah East will be collecting books for Haven Elementary! The books will be used as Speaker Gifts and will then be donated in honor of the speaker to the Haven Media Center. The librarian at Haven has put together an Amazon wish list of books. When you click to purchase a book, please make sure the shipping address is to YOU. Once you receive the book, you will then bring it to a meeting and give it to Kerri. If you have any questions, please reach out to Andrew Cosey, Laura Lane McKinnon, or Kerri Culver. Thank you for your support of the Haven Media Center!
It was a great meeting on Friday with many visiting Rotarians and guests! We had visitors all the way from Serbia and a few GRSP (Georgia Rotary Student Program) students in attendance as well! Additionally, there was a new member induction - Amanda Lolik-Grainger. Welcome to the club, Amanda! President Jason Jones asked members to write down a charity that they would like to see receive $1000 from the money raised through Raffle and Happy. The Dive Savannah was the winner! The Dive Savannah strives to support the Savannah community through several outreach initiatives such as operating an incoming day center for the homeless, providing food and necessities to four homeless camps, and helping struggling veterans. Once all Rotary business items were discussed, Bob Ohrablo with the Savannah Ghost Pirates spoke about Savannah' new hockey team!
A fellow Rotarian from Jacksonville, Bob gave us an overview of how the club system functions. The Ghost Pirates will be in the ECHL league. The games will be played in the new Enmark Arena with the spectator capacity for a hockey game being 7000-7500. There are many different ticketing options such as individual, corporate sponsorships, and season ticket holders. Bob invited everyone to come have a great time starting in October for the pre-season games and then through April for the regular season. An entertaining speaker, we appreciated Bob talking with us.
