Our speaker for the meeting this week is GRSP student Julio Morales! Julio will be introducing himself and telling us more about his background and home in Mexico. He'll also be providing some special entertainment! We will also hear from Bill Von Alt how we can support Julio throughout his year in Georgia.

The RCSE Board is excited to share that we're seeing our highest regular meeting attendance since 2020! We are thrilled to see so many of you each week at the Pirate's House; it's a great sign our club is thriving. Because the number of meals we are purchasing has increased, we need to revive our guest meal policy, which we have not observed since before 2020.
The RCSE Guest Meal policy is: members pay $10 for each guest they bring, which covers approximately half the cost of each meal. Each member can choose whether they will bring payment in the form of cash or a check to the meeting or be billed for the total number of guest meals at the end of each quarter with their regular dues.
We will start formally observing this policy with the start of the quarter in October. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Kim or any other member of the RCSE Board.
It was great to see so many Rotarians at our September 5th meeting! This week, we transitioned Michael Messer from Red to Blue Badge. Congratulations, Michael! President Kim Campbell reminded members that we will be meeting at SEDA on September 12th and of the upcoming September Social at Savannah Jazz Festival on September 19th. Once all Rotary business items were discussed, Cheri Dean introduced our speaker for the week, Leia Dedic, who presented on ALICE.
ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are individuals who are employed but do not earn enough money to make ends meet. Leia said that the poverty line is the same across the United States but the cost of living is different. The poverty line for a family of four is $32,150. For Chatham County, a family of four would need to make $84,400 a year in order to survive. The stability budget for a family of four in our area would be $130,000. Over 4 million people in Georgia fall into ALICE which is about 31% of our population.
By having this data, it makes it easier to connect people to resources as well as help nonprofit's apply and secure grants.
