Details for the September 18th Meeting

We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall.

Our speaker for this week is author Jessica Leigh Lebos.  She writes about interesting people, enchanting places, and the compelling—and often confounding—connections in between. Jessica is the author of two books, Savannah Sideways and The Camellia Thief & Other Tales, as well as The Savannah Sideways Podcast, a 10-episode history-mystery that unravels one of the city's strangest stories. She has received multiple awards from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists and introduces herself at cocktail parties as "Southern by marriage."

RCSE looks forward to seeing all members and guests on Friday!
rcse Club Survey

The Board wants your feedback on the state of RCSE! We're interested in your thoughts on service projects, programs, socials, and the general state of the club. Hard copies and a QR code to take the survey on your phone will also be available at our meetings.  Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey!

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
September 11, 2026 - Meeting Recap
It was great to be back at The Pirates House on Friday where we were treated to a presentation by Tom Hollis about Sleep!  Before Tom took the podium, President Conni Reynolds had Doris Williams come forward as Doris has completed all Red Badge requirements and is now a Blue Badge!  Congratulations, Doris!  After all Rotary business items were discussed and Happy dollars collected, Melanie Farrant introduced Tom.

Sleep is essential for our overall well-being, but most people think it is flexible.  An average person will sleep 200,000 hours over their lifetime and as we age, the amount of sleep that is needed decreases.  When we sleep, it allows our body to restock for the next day.  If you do take a nap during the day, Tom says that it should be for no more than an hour and ideally would be around 15-20 minutes.

Tom then talked about the 5 stages of sleep, sleep disorders, and medicine that can help with sleep.  He gave us tips to achieve better sleep such as having physical activity during the day, turning off all screens an hour before bed, sleeping in a cool and dark room, and avoiding alcohol and large meals before bedtime.  He encouraged everyone to create a calming bedtime routine.  Thank you, Tom, for reminding us that a good night’s sleep is more than a luxury; it’s an important investment in our health, our service, and our ability to make a positive impact.
