Details for the August 6th Meeting

We will be meeting at The Pirates House this Friday. It is an IN PERSON ONLY meeting. We will be meeting in our normal meeting room - Captain Flints Hall. The side door to the room will be unlocked if you would prefer to use that entrance. Our speaker for this Friday is former RCSE member Wade Herring! Wade will be talking about why he decided to run for congress.

RCSE looks forward to seeing all members on Friday!

Back to School Supply Drive for Haven Elementary

This past Friday, Andrew Cosey and Laura Lane McKinnon delivered school supplies to Haven Elementary. Thanks to the generosity of our members, RCSE was able to purchase over $400 in school supplies for Haven! Along with the school supplies, the club also donated 30 books to the library. Everyone at Haven Elementary was very appreciative! The Back to School Breakfast has been rescheduled for May during Teacher Appreciation week.

July 23, 2021 - Meeting Recap

It was another wonderful meeting at The Pirates House this past Friday! Once again, President Laura Lane McKinnon reminded everyone of all the service activities that are available to members over the next two months. She also thanked everyone who was able to attend the first social of the new fiscal year at The Lost Square on Wednesday. Fun was had by all who attended! Once all Rotary business items were complete, Laura Lane introduced Bobbi Moulis who is with the Chatham County Mosquito Control.

The Chatham County Mosquito Control Department was formed in the 1950's and is responsible for all of Chatham County except for wildlife areas such as Wassaw and Ossabaw. Bobbi says that mosquito's are the most dangerous animal in the world due to the disease they carry. Yellow Fever in the 1800's in Savannah was caused by mosquito's. Mosquito's usually lay eggs in water and they become adults within five days. Only female ones bite! There are 43 different kinds of mosquito's in Chatham County.

The Mosquito Control uses a variety of products to treat mosquito larvae around the county. They have four trucks (which are only used in the early morning) and four helicopters. The helicopters account for 95% of treatments and will treat about 6000 acres within 45-60 minutes. Their budget is $3.3 million per year with 29 employees. Much of their work is done in surveillance. You can submit a service request online if you would like to have your yard treated.
