Professor Michael Chaney will present on the history and vision SCAD Film Festival as well as talk about upcoming events!  

We'll meet for lunch and a brief meeting to cover club business in the downstairs event space of Java Burito, before we walk over one block to the Isaiah Davenport House for a private tour of the Preservation Center and we meet the new Executive Director of the Davenport House and hear from the Executive Director of HSF.  RSVPs will be required and this meeting will be capped at 30 attendees, so be sure to sign up early to save your spot!

“Cyber-attacks occur every 39 seconds and as a small business you need to protect yourself, your staff, and your clients,” says Scott Scheidt. “Business owners work endlessly to build the trust of their clients and employees and if there is a security breach of private information, there is nothing more grounding than having to send out a mass email to all of your clients and employees that there was a breach of security on your client’s private information.” 

This presentation will cover:

• understanding the cost of a cyber breach
• discover different ways your business or organization may be at risk
• learn the measures to take to better protect your organizations for clients, as well as in-house

Chief Williams will share information about fire safety and all of the resources the City of Savannah Fire Department has available to its citizens. They do a whole lot more than just fight fires!

Learn about the statistics of domestic violence-related crime in Savannah and the role of Safe Shelter over the last 44 years. Shannon will speak to how the DV landscape has changed in the Coastal Empire and what Safe Shelter is doing about it to meet the community needs.

Karen Dove Barr’s book, Burnt Pot Island, a Marsh Hammock in its Natural State, answers the question of what life was like on Skidaway Island one hundred years ago when the island was a hotbed of moonshiners and rum-runners. Her clue is a mysterious abandoned house on Burnt Pot Island. Told from the viewpoint of an African-American mother and daughter who struggle to achieve freedom and preserve family, the novel ends with a hard-earned expression of hope for their future. Although the characters are fictional, the events and details are based on extensive historical research.

We will be discussing how patient care for elderly patients falls into two buckets, one we are used to (fee for service) and a newer version (value-based care). We will then discuss major differences (visit frequency, costs etc.) and provide more of a deep dive into how it works.

Helen P. Bradley will discuss her debut novel, Breach of Trust, where she used her insider knowledge as long-time head of the Chatham County Victim-Witness Assistance Program to create a compelling read about the debilitating effect one person’s deceit has on the criminal justice system. It chronicles one woman’s harrowing journey to finally speak out against injustice. She’ll also discuss her writing and publishing journey.
