NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
GRSP Student - Brendan Mungwena
RCSE in conjunction with Savannah South and Savannah West will be sponsoring a GRSP student for the upcoming 2017/2018 school year.
The selection process was finalized recently and our student has finally completed the process for his journey.  Brendan Mungwena from Zimbabwe is the student we are sponsoring.  He was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and just recently celebrated his 22nd birthday.  Brendan is the fourth born in a family of eight, with one older brother & four sisters.  His father is retired and his mother is a house wife.  He was originally exposed to Rotary through his sister who is a former Rotaract President.  While he was in high school he helped form his school’s Interact Club.  He plans to study Accounting/Economics or Business Mgmt while at Armstrong.  When asked how the GRSP program will benefit him for the future, he responded “I hope to learn how to develop my country by learning and understanding diverse ways of living.  I would like the opportunity to be a part of something big which will bring about world peace.  Through interactive and social experiences I would also grow my own way of understanding and expertise on how to be a proficient leader.  I also wish to grasp the opportunity granted to me be excelling in my academics.”

March 31, 2017 - Meeting Recap
This meeting was filled with many exciting Rotary Business items such as 1. Mel Mrochinski and Larry Silbermann both received Paul Harris Fellow +1 pins, 2. Jonathan Porter was inducted into the club, and 3. Ed Donoghue gave a brief recap of awards that RCSE received at the District Conference.   Congrats to RCSE for receiving the Silver Award, being #2 in the district for contribution to The Rotary Foundation, and for 100% of our membership donating to The Rotary Foundation.  On average, each member of our club donated $239 to The Foundation.  After all business was finished, President Elect Ben Brewer held a Club Assembly.
Ben wanted to have a Club Assembly to receive some feedback that he hoped would be helpful for the planning of the 2017-2018 Rotary year.  Some members mentioned they like being a part of Rotary because there was an international component to the organization through initiatives like Polio Plus and GRSP.  Everyone agreed that in order to truly benefit from this organization, members must build the Rotary meeting into their weekly routine.  The majority of the assembly focused on Programs.  A few suggestions for programs was to have a committee help find speakers rather than one person, have a monthly theme, play a TED talk one meeting, have panel discussions with members who are in similar fields, and have a brainstorming session about potential speakers one day after a meeting.  With meeting time running short, service projects and social events were tabled for another day.
