Haven Elementary is one of the service projects RCSE has chosen for the upcoming 2017-2018 year and there are two opportunities to volunteer in July! The first is the Back to School Breakfast for the teachers on Friday, July 28 from 7:30 am - 8:30 am. This is a great way to meet the teachers and administrators at Haven as well as see the new building! We will need members to serve and provide breakfast items. The second opportunity is on Sunday, July 30 from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm at Haven Elementary's Open House. Haven has asked for a few of our members to aide in the Open House by greeting and directing parents as they come into the building. Sign up's for both events will be at the check-in table at the next 3 meetings. So, mark your calendars and volunteer!
What a meeting RCSE had this past Friday! With 19 visiting Rotarians from all around the country, the room was packed with people, good conversation, and new friendships between RCSE members and our visitors. The club was lucky enough to also have a visiting Rotarian from Brazil who briefly spoke about the Hepatitis Zero campaign. If you would like to learn more about the campaign to eradicate Hepatitis, please visit www.ragforhepatitiseradication.org. Then, the club heard from Tara Jennings who is the director of Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition.
Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition (CGIC) work is not only about gathering data, but analyzing the data so that information can be used to better guide decision making that impacts the Savannah community. In 2014, CGIC was awarded the contract with Chatham County to develop a community-wide plan known as the Chatham Community Blueprint. The blueprint is comprised of historical information, results of community meetings, and statistics from the public opinion survey. The majority of the data collected focuses on four priority areas which are the economy, education, health and quality of life. A good way to sum up what CGIC does is what fellow member Joe Buck said in response to a survey question: "An effort by the community and government to systematically answer the needs of the community and plan for the future."
Paul Tatum is asking for input from members of RCSE who would like to help bring in new and interesting speakers. If you have an interest or any ideas regarding future speakers, please contact Paul at 770-367-6119 or Paul.Tatum@uss.salvationarmy.org
