On Saturday, April 29, 2017, Claude Wilson passed away. He was born January 1, 1930 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in June of 1951, and obtained an MBA from New York University. Claude worked at various financial companies in New York City, and then later had his own firm, CAW Equities in Greenwich, CT until moving to Savannah. He was married to Janet M. Bowden, of Greenwich in 1963 and was the father of two children, Elizabeth B. Wilson, and Marshall C. Wilson. Claude's 20 year anniversary as a member of RCSE was on May 9, 2017. We will miss you Claude.
Claude's Memorial Service will be on Monday, May 22nd at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church which is located on Skidaway Island.
The meeting this past Friday was a Club Assembly to discuss upcoming service projects for the 2017-2018 year. The discussion was lead by President Elect Ben Brewer and many good ideas were shared!
Ben started by suggesting the club do a non-profit monthly donation funded by money raised through Fines and Happy Dollars (weekly average is $40). He asked members to write down a charity they would like to see RCSE support with these earnings. Each month a different charity will be picked and charities associated with a member of RCSE can be included. The membership was receptive to this idea and suggested that the charity needs to be a 501c3.
The discussion then turned to Haven Elementary. The membership seemed on board with continuing to support Haven but wanted to make sure we would be a good fit with Haven's needs. Ben and Beth Hancock are going to meet with the principal at Haven and determine best way RCSE can help. Everyone enjoyed hosting the Back to School Breakfast for the teachers at Haven and therefore, the club will do it again this year. The members also liked donating books to Haven in honor of the speakers and felt it would be nice touch to have the speakers sign the book. Joe Buck suggested if we continued to volunteer at Haven, then the members might want to consider going through some training like the L.O.V.E. mentors do. Another suggestion was to have a book drive for the school.
Finally, the meeting ended with a discussion on how to honor Claude Wilson. Someone suggested making a donation in his honor to Haven Elementary or purchasing books in his honor and donating them. The club will be finishing the next level of Claude's Paul Harris Fellowship.
